Xeomin: What It Is, How It’s Different, and Why We Love It

Xeomin is an injectable neuromodulator used to temporarily relax targeted facial muscles to soften fine lines and wrinkles. It belongs to the same class of treatments as Botox and Dysport, but it has a key difference that sets it apart: Xeomin is a “naked” purified form of botulinum toxin type A, meaning it contains no accessory proteins.

This unique formulation allows Xeomin to deliver the same muscle-relaxing effect while reducing the likelihood of the body developing resistance over time. Because of this, it is sometimes preferred for long-term or repeated treatments.

How Xeomin Works

Xeomin works by blocking nerve signals to specific muscles, reducing their activity. When these muscles relax, the overlying skin smooths, improving the appearance of dynamic wrinkles such as:

  • Frown lines between the brows

  • Forehead lines

  • Crow’s feet around the eyes

  • Neck banding in some cases

Results typically begin within a few days and fully develop within 1–2 weeks, lasting approximately 3–4 months depending on individual metabolism and dosage.

How Xeomin Differs From Other Neurotoxins

While Xeomin, Botox, and Dysport all work similarly, Xeomin is distinct in structure. Because it is free of complexing proteins, it is considered a more purified option.

Potential advantages include:

  • Lower risk of antibody resistance with repeated use

  • Consistent dosing and predictable results

  • A “cleaner” formulation for patients who prefer minimal additives

Some patients may respond better to Xeomin if they feel their results from other neurotoxins have become less effective over time.
